The main airport for Sydney is the Sydney International Airport – 8 km from the center of the city. Transportation to and from the Sydney Airport is available by the Airport Link which connects the airport to the city transit stations. Another option is the Sydney Airporter coach which drops off riders at major hotels throughout the city. Taxis are also available, but rates are not inexpensive.

Sydney transit is run by State Transit which operates buses and ferry service throughout and around the city. Trains are operated by CityRail, and these trains are an inexpensive way to get around the city. However it doesn’t reach into many tourist areas such as many of the more popular beach areas. There is also the Metro Monorail with a single overhead line which connects the central district to Darling Harbour. Additionally the Metro Light Rail travels from Central Station to Wentworth Park in Pyrmont. The Light Rail provides excellent access to some of the city’s popular attractions. Visit www.metrolightrail.com.au for more information.

Sydney also offers a network of buses, taxis, water taxis, ferries, and even a JetCat. A Weekly Travel Pass offers unlimited travel on buses, trains and ferries. Sydney’s bus system is very reliable and provides services to almost the entire city. A Travelten ticket is worth 10 bus rides. Additionally, the Sydney Explorer and the Bondi Explorer buses offer additional routes to destinations of interest across the city including the Opera House, gardens, museums and much more.

Ferry service is plentiful around the city. Simply visit the harbor and board one of the ferries. The main terminal is at Circular Quay. Ferry tickets are reasonably priced and offer visitors an enjoyable and scenic way to see the city of Sydney from a different perspective.

Taxi service is reasonably priced in Sydney. They line up at stands throughout the city or in front of hotels. Additionally you can call for taxi service from the major taxi companies including Taxis Combined (13 33 00), RSL Taxis (02/9581 1111), or Premier Cabs (13 10 17).
