Phoenix Transportation

Phoenix Arizona Transportation - Phoenix is the sixth-largest city in the country, known as the "Valley of the Sun", it is a major metropolitan area full of resorts, museums and restaurants just waiting to be enjoyed. Phoenix is one of the sunniest destination in the country, and during those seasons where the rest of the country is suffering under a cloudy fall or spring showers, Phoenix remains basking in the sun.

Sky Harbor International Airport (www.phxskyharbor.com) is only 3 miles east of downtown Phoenix. SuperShuttle (www.supershuttle.com) provides service between the airport and all area resorts, hotels and even homes in the Phoenix area. Taxis are also available at all three terminals and are reasonably priced along with the shuttles. Valley Metro (www.valleymetro.org) offers public bus service with the Red Line providing service between the airport and downtown Phoenix, Tempe, and Mesa.

The "Valley of the Sun" spreads across 400 square miles, so when visiting this area, a car is very important. Other than downtown Phoenix, there is plenty of free parking in this area. Also, car rentals are available at very reasonable rates. Also, if you want to rent a car and ride in style, there's a great exotic car rental service in the area called "Rent-a-Vette" (www.exoticcarrentalsphoenix.com) where you can rent a Corvette, Porsche Boxter, Porsche 911, Dodge Viper or a Mercedes. It might be pricy - but it'll also be fun.

Public transportation in Phoenix is provided by Valley Metro (www.valleymetro.org), in the form of the public bus system. The bus system is intended for commuters so isn't too valuable for tourists. However the free Downtown Area Shuttle (DASH), provides bus service to the downtown area - with a number of attractions along the route that visitors will want to see.

Taxi service is available in Phoenix, however because the area is so spread out, taxi rides can be fairly expensive. If you're going to visit this area, the best option is to rent a car, it will save a fortune.
