Detroit is called Motor City for a reason – but in recent years, Detroit has grown into much more than that. The city is a stunning metropolis of restaurants, clubs, and of course – magnificent shopping.

The Detroit Metropolitan Airport (www.metroairport.com) is Detroit’s central airport. Cab service to Detroit is very inexpensive. Additionally, most major rental companies are available – cars are highly recommended to get anywhere in Detroit other than downtown. The SMART bus system offers shuttle service from near the terminals on the outer roadway near the Smith Terminal. (www.smartbus.org).

Detroit doesn’t have any significant public transportation other than the elevated People Mover Train that loops around the downtown area. This is a great way to see the downtown tourist sites, and rides are very inexpensive. However to travel anywhere outside of the downtown area, you will need a car.
