Denver Transport

Denver Colorado Transportation - Denver, the “Mile High City”, is 5280 feet above sea level at the State Capitol. Denver is one of the few cities not built on an ocean, lake, river or road or railroad. Starting out as a city based on the gold in the region; today Denver is one of the largest cities between the Great Plains and the Pacific Ocean. It is a vast and growing city with beautiful tree-lined boulevards, and 20,000 acres worth of city parks. Denver is at the top of the list of cities worth visiting.

Denver International Airport (DIA) is Denver’s major airport 23 miles northeast from downtown Denver. Buses are available from the airport to downtown Denver and rates are very reasonable. The Supershuttle (www.supershuttledenver.com) offers transportation to and from downtown hotels. Taxies are available as well at much higher rates.

The RTD (Regional Transportation District) operates a bus and light-rail system. It provides reliable service within Denver and suburbs, and offers free parking at 65 Park-n-ride locations throughout the metro area. Fares are very reasonable and children under 5 travel free.

Free buses are offered that travel up and down from the Civic Center to Market Street.

Light rail is available throughout downtown and the greater metro area. The C Line travels north and south. D Line travels west to Invesco Field and Six Flags Elitch Gardens all the way to Union Station in lower downtown and ends at 30th Avenue and Downing Street.

An open-air Trolley is available (www.denvertrolly.org) year round. It offers a half-hour sightseeing route from Confluence Park along the west bank of the Platte River.

Taxies are available throughout the city and can be hailed in the street, although it is easier to call for a taxi or go to a taxi stand outside any major hotel.

Driving isn’t recommended downtown, and aren’t necessary to get around. However if driving is desired, all major car rental companies are available throughout downtown Denver.
