Barcelona Transport - Barcelona is one of the most intriguing and advancing cities in Spain. It is a city of change, as the Catalan language and culture was under attack since 1975; however this bilingual city was revived in 1992 when the Olympic Games came to Barcelona. The once drab city was rejuvenated into a beautiful, sunlit and pristine city – ready to bring enjoyment to travelers from the entire world.
El Prat is Barcelona’s airport, which is 8 miles from Barcelona. The Aerobus leaves from all three terminals every 15 minutes and arrives at four stops throughout Barcelona (40 minutes to the last stop). Rail service is also available from the airport every half hour to Sants (25 minute ride). Sants offers connections to the subway system. Taxis are also available outside all terminals.

Barcelona has a very good subway system which accesses all areas of the city. The TMB (Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona) runs The Metro as well as the bus system. The metro offers five color/number lines from the center of the city outward. Tickets called a T-Dia offer unlimited use of the system for a full 24 hours. There are also Travel Cards available for multiple days. Tickets can be used on all TMB transportation systems.
Buses are available throughout the city, but can be slower due to Barcelona’s congested traffic. Routes are clearly marked however, and are very easy to navigate and use. Also, a unique bus is the bright yellow “Nitbus” which runs from 11pm to 4am, offering a cheaper nighttime alternative to the more expensive taxi service, however the Nitbus requires its own tickets which are bought directly from the driver.
Taxis are also available throughout the city and are reasonably priced. You can hail them in the street and are all metered.
Biking lanes are also available in the center of Barcelona, and biking is an excellent way to experience the city of Barcelona. Bike rentals are available from Un Coxte Menys (93-268-21-05), or from Bicilot (93-307-74-75).
Bus Turistic is a unique experience to see Barcelona from a double-decker open-top tourist bus. This bus visits all major areas of Barcelona, and you can disembark at any point. The buses follow a North Route or a South Route, and leave from Placa de Catalunya. One or two day passes are available, and children under 12 receive discounts.
Another option to keep in mind is the Barcelona Card, which is available at the airport or any railway or bus station. These cards offer an option of multiple days of 24 hour unlimited travel on all public transportation system. They are a real bargain for any visitors staying longer than one day.
