Annapolis Transportation

Annapolis Transportation Maryland - Annapolis, the state capital of Maryland, is a city that is rich in Colonial heritage. This is where George Washington resigned, and where Congress ended the Revolutionary War. The city is filled with narrow brick streets and alleys, and features 1,500 Colonial buildings throughout. Home to the United States Naval Academy, and to St. John's College - this ocean-side city is filled with restaurants and shops where visitors will relax by the sea in one of the United State's first cities.

Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (www.bwiairport.com) is the major local airport for Annapolis. Annapolis is easily driven to by car from the airport following I-97 south to U.S. Route 50. Most hotels are off Rte 50. SuperShuttle (www.supershuttle.com) also offers transportation between BWI and Annapolis. Taxis are also available but much more expensive.

The streets of Annapolis radiate from State Circle and Church Circle. The Annapolis Department of Parking and Transportation (www.annapolis.gov/transport) offer two free shuttles between the historic/business district and the Navy/Marine Corps Stadium parking area. The State Shuttle stops at Church Circle and the State House. The Navy Bus Shuttle stops at the Navy Academy, Main Street, and West Annapolis locations.

Annapolis bus service offers access to all parts of town. Bus fare is very inexpensive and run every half-hour.

Car rentals in Annapolis are available from Budget, Discount, and Enterprise. However, parking is limited on the narrow 18th centry streets - so it's always best to park on the edge of town and take buses or the shuttles into town. Taxi service is available from Annapolis Cab (410-268-0022) or Yellow Checker Cab (410-268-1212).

Another unique and fun way to see Annapolis is to take the Jiffy Water Taxi (410-263-0033) from the City Dock - which visits restaurants and various destinations along Spa and Back creeks. It is a wonderful sightseeing experience, and fares are not very expensive.
